J. Cole unleashed the beast not only on a surprising album, but on a new song that was thought to be his response to Kendrick Lamar’s fierce criticism of Cole and Drake.
J. Cole is thought to be mocking Kendrick Lamar in ‘7 Minute Workout’
On Friday (April 5), J. Cole took to his Instagram page to announce that his new project, “Delete Later,” is now available. Among the 12 songs, there is a song called “7 Minute Drill” that has caused a lot of buzz on social media. In the song, Cole deleted several bars, which is believed to be a response to Kendrick’s flames on “Like That” from Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You album.
Although the Fayetteville, North Carolina, troll chose not to be named, rap heads themselves speculated that Cole was hitting back at K-Dot. “I was in ‘Ville,’ so I’m fine when it comes to nerves/He’s still acting, but falling down like The Simpsons/Your first bit is classic/Your last bit is tragic/Your The second shit put n***as to sleep, but they gassed it/Your third shit was big, that was your peak/I was in the back, I just hit mine/Now I’m in the front ” Cole complained.
Earlier in the song, J. Cole hinted that this was a diss response. “I got a call and they said someone didn’t like it/You want some attention/It comes with extensions/My dude’s like, ‘Say the word’/He’s talking bullshit, he’s tickled/Already put so much into these Working the streets, he’s getting a pension/I told him, ‘calm down’/How does it look like I have followers?/If the gun goes off, I’m the one gritting my teeth,” he rhymes.
