In a recent interview with Damon Dash and Mark Halperin on Tonight 2, Chris Gotti, brother and business partner of the late Irv Gotti, opened up about the health struggles leading up to Irv’s sudden passing on February 5. Irv, the co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, was 54 years old and had been battling type 1 diabetes for years. Chris shared that days before his death, Irv suffered a stroke after indulging in a heavy Chinese meal while playing poker.

According to Chris, Irv’s reluctance to take his health seriously was a contributing factor. Although diagnosed with diabetes in his 40s, Irv didn’t follow through with proper care and treatment. “He just didn’t believe in it,” Chris explained, adding that the stroke was the result of a combination of factors, including the hemorrhagic stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.

Chris, clearly shaken by the loss, emphasized that it wasn’t diabetes itself that caused his brother’s death, but rather the complications and strain the disease had placed on his body over time. Dame Dash, who joined the conversation, expressed admiration for Irv’s legacy and career, reminding everyone that no amount of money or success could replace the importance of health.

“It’s not about having all the money in the world,” Dame said, reflecting on Irv’s life. “Money doesn’t keep you alive. Strength, your crew, looking good—none of that keeps you alive.” He shared a message about how the loss of loved ones serves as a reminder to cherish life and prioritize health.

Chris later took to Instagram to urge people to watch the full interview, calling it an important conversation about life, health, and legacy. “This is the conversation you need to hear,” he wrote, encouraging viewers to understand the significance of protecting both their health and families.

As the Gotti family mourns the loss of Irv, Chris’s powerful message is a reminder for everyone to take better care of themselves, particularly when dealing with long-term health issues.

Irv Gotti, co-founder of the murder of Inc. Records, died suddenly at the age of 54 on February 5. His brother and partner of the murder company, Chris Gotti, now leaves a huge gap that he can never fill.

Although the exact cause of death has not been announced, Gotti, who is fighting type 1 diabetes, suffered a stroke just days before his death. Chris recently sat down with Damon Dash and Mark Halperin to discuss the episode of 2 Tonight. During the conversation, Chris revealed that his brother had a stroke while having a Chinese meal while playing poker.

“When he was in his 40s, he was diagnosed, but the IRV was not going to see a doctor,” Chris actually said. “That’s why he was diagnosed. When he finally went for a real physical and exam, They are like “You are diabetes.” […] The IRV did comply with his conditions. He just didn’t believe it, basically he had a bunch of Chinese food while playing poker and had a lot of hemorrhagic stroke, which was bleeding in the brain. ”

Chris Gotti went on to explain that it wasn’t diabetes that killed him, but what the disease did to his body.

Dame Dash jumped out and praised Irv Gotti for “pushing” and “making history” throughout his career. He also pointed out that he has all the money in the world but cannot surpass his health.

He still had all kinds of bread and food that killed him. The explanation is that money cannot keep you alive. Strength, having a crew, well dressed, none of that keeps you alive, but the things that keep me going, all the people who look at me are just as strong, I don’t want them to have to wash behind me. I can’t even understand IRVs like this […] I hope he can fight for his health […] When I lose people, it makes me love life and appreciate it even more. ”

Chris shared a clip of an interview with his Instagram account on Saturday (February 22) and implored people to watch the episode just because of its importance.

“This is the conversation you need to hear!” he wrote in the title. “I sat down with Dame Dash @duskoppington on @2waytvapp and had one of the most real discussions about life, health and heritage. It’s not just another interview, it’s about how we move forward, how we protect our families and how we can Take care of yourself. It’s special and I hope everyone can attend. Watch the full interview now! irv43ever.”
