Drake’s legal counsel quickly responded to the Universal Music Group’s motion to dismiss his lawsuit over Kendrick Lamar’s “Don’t Like Us”.
On Monday (March 17), Allhiphop received a statement from Michael Gottlieb, Drake’s chief attorney, backing a 32-page legal document UMG, which categorized Drake’s lawsuit as “a baseless complaint.”

In an explosive, serious and concise statement, Gottlieb responded with lawyers directly calling on UMG to try to “disperse” shareholders and others’ real behavior. In doing so, Gottlieb described UMG as a “greedy” company that profited from misinformation, resulting in accusing the company of causing more serious conflict.
“UMG wants to pretend it’s about a rap battle in order to disperse its shareholders, artists and the public into a simple fact: greedy companies are finally held accountable for profiting from dangerous misinformation, which has led to multiple acts of violence,” the statement from Gottlieb reads in part.
As the statement continued, Gottlieb claimed that UMG was “desperate” and boldly possessed “confidence” Drake’s legal team believed the lawsuit would move forward.
“This motion is a desperate strategy for UMG to avoid accountability, but we have confidence that we will continue and continue to reveal UMG’s long history, endangering its artists,” the statement concluded.
UMG’s legal application dismissed Drake’s lawsuit, the back of the Canadian MC’s agreement to file a lawsuit last month. Drake initially used artificial flow strategies, robots and other actions to claim that he claimed not only harmed his reputation, but also posted his “certified pedophile” on Kendrick. However, according to Rollin A. Ransom, chief attorney for UMG’s legal team, the tag had previously formally requested a hearing on the lawsuit scheduled for April 2, 2025, as their plan to file a motion to dismiss the motion on March 17.
In the 32-page introduction to legal filing, UMG wastes no time resolving what they consider to be baseless complaints.
“The plaintiff was one of the most successful record artists of all time, losing the rap battle he caused and willing to participate,” the motion states. “Instead of accepting the loss as an unpopular rap artist he often claims to be, he sued his record company in an attempt to mislead his wounds.”
