Drake’s first kiss was soundtracked by the Backstreet Boys, and he made sure to let one of the members know when they first met.
In the latest interview with Billboard published on Wednesday (June 24), BSB member Kevin Richardson shared a story about meeting Drizzy in Toronto in 2022.
“I think the coolest thing that probably ever happened to my kids was when we were on the DNA tour in Toronto,” he recalls. “We just got there and went to a restaurant that happened to be like Drake’s — that’s where he always goes. […] Suddenly Drake came in.
“The foreman was like, ‘Sorry, Derek’s here, he’ll be happy when you’re done. […]to be able to come and say hello,” he continued. “Then we went to see him and he told a story about his first kiss being on one of our songs! And he said, ‘What are you doing in town?’ I was like, ‘We’re going to play three shows.’ He said, ‘Am I going to make it? He made it through and got on stage to perform with us. “
In July 2022, Drizzy joined the superstar boy band for the well-documented release of their hit single “I Want It That Way.” After calling himself the sixth member, Drake shared background on why moments on stage mean so much to him.
“When I was 13, I had my bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, the girl I loved came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her,” he told the crowd. “It was the first time I felt validated and the first time I felt like, you know, I had a chance to be cool.
“If she could see me right now, you know what I’m saying?” he concluded.
