Dame Dash said Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium freestyle was rubbish and questioned why only former enemies like Jadakiss and Fat Joe showed up to support him on stage.
Damon Dash just blasted Jay-Z for his performance at Yankee Stadium, and he made no secret of who was supporting him.
The Roc-A-Fella co-founder watched the freestyle competition and wasn’t impressed, but his real problem wasn’t just the bar itself.
This is the company that Jay-Z has left on the scene, and it speaks to his current standing in the hip-hop world.
“It’s funny, the only people Jay hangs out with now are his former enemies. Isn’t that weird? But he doesn’t have a single friend. Does that make sense to you? Now, I’m dancing on stage with my enemies. With our enemies, with our actors, and none of your friends are on stage with you?” Damm said, according to The Art of Conversation.

He was talking about Jadakiss and Fat Joe, two artists who were involved in serious feuds with Jay-Z at the time. This is no coincidence for Damm, who questions what it means that these are the only names willing to share the stage with him.
The Fat Joe situation dates back to the late 1990s, when there was a rift between the Terror Squad and Roc-A-Fella, with both teams claiming supremacy in New York.
This tension lasted for several years until Fat Joe signed with Roc Nation in 2017, when they finally put an end to the tension. It’s a similar story with Jadakiss and The Lox.
The feud between the Yonkers crew and Jay-Z’s camp seemed permanent in the early 2000s, but The Lox eventually signed with Roc Nation in 2016, and Jadakiss had already collaborated with Roc-A-Fella in 2007 on “Last Kiss.”
Dahm also participated in the freestyle itself. “I don’t know why he thought he became a spoken word poet. I don’t get it. Those improv styles are garbage, man. They’re not the same. They hit the ball differently,” he explained. He said the energy wasn’t there, the crowd wasn’t feeling it and New York wasn’t buying what he was selling anymore.
In addition to performing, Dame also criticized Jay-Z’s fashion choices during the show, noting that he relied heavily on Mitchell and Ness merchandise and baseball uniforms instead of developing his own style.
He contrasted this with what he did back then, when he made a statement wearing custom Dapper Dan clothing. According to Billboard , Fat Joe’s management deal with Roc Nation comes after years of tension between the two camps finally came to an end.
Dahm also reflects on the nature of rap beef itself, arguing that most conflicts are performative and lack real substance.
He said the whole thing was drama and once you’re on camera, there’s no real beef.
The Yankee Stadium show was supposed to be a celebration, but to Dame, it was just another example of Jay-Z’s disconnect with the culture that made him who he is.
In Damm’s assessment, Memphis Black was the only real friend on that stage.
