Rumors of Foxy Brown’s long-rumored return have intensified after Cormega revealed that the hip-hop icon has been recording new music.
Foxy Brown may be back. The Brooklyn legend is reportedly putting the finishing touches on new music. If this were true, the entire conversation about women in hip-hop could seriously change. Oh yes.
Not everyone is excited about Foxy Brown’s return. I have.
To me, The Brown Fox remains one of the greatest female hosts of all time. Everyone has their own Mount Rushmore. Some would say Lauryn Hill. Others will ride with Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj or rising stars. But Fox belongs in every serious discussion. Her confidence, expression and effortless swagger helped define an era that still influences culture today. She is beautiful.
Interestingly, Foxy has never been about relevance. While many artists spend years trying to stay visible through social media, interviews or reality TV shows, she chose to walk away. Aside from a few appearances and rumors over the years, she is one of the biggest mysteries in hip-hop.
Cormega was the one person who kept in touch with her. During a recent conversation, the Queens veteran revealed that Foxy has been hard at work recording new material and suggested that fans won’t have to wait forever to hear it. Coming from Mega, it has weight. Yes, the fox is cooking.
All of this comes to light after National Fox Brown Appreciation Day passed many of us. Better late than never.
Could this lead to a proper album? Surprise single? Could Foxy make a surprise appearance at Jay-Z’s upcoming Yankee Stadium concert? If there was a stage that was built for an unforgettable reunion, this is certainly one of them.
This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I’m craving something surprising!
The bigger story is that Foxy Brown does it again. Her style is always timeless, her presence is undeniable and her absence makes her a black mystery.
Legends don’t have to remind people who they are.
