Playbwoi The Great was shot and killed in Indianapolis. His mother shared heartbreaking details about his death.
Indianapolis producer Cornell Davis, known as “Playbwoi The Great,” was shot to death Tuesday night at his home in the 6000 block of Windsor Avenue.
The 37-year-old artist’s legacy extends far beyond his hometown, with collaborations with hip-hop’s biggest names and a loyal fan base that celebrates his music.
Playbwoi The Great’s mother Jenetta LeShore spoke exclusively about her son’s death and his impact on the music industry.
“My son. My king. I was his No. 1 fan. I used to give away his CDs. I’m selling his CDs. I’m going to stamp the CDs and print them. That’s how big of a fan I am,” LeShore said of her unwavering support throughout her career.
The Indianapolis music scene recognized Playbwoi The Great’s talent early on.
He has collaborated with major artists including NBA Youngboy, Bleu DaVinci and Kevin Gates, and is signed to Boosie Badazz’s Bad Azz Music Syndicate.
LeShor recalled the moment her son shared his biggest breakthrough.
“He was making music with Kevin Gates. He signed with Boosie, and he called me. He said, ‘Mom.’ He said, ‘Guess what?’ I said, ‘What, son?’ He said, ‘I just signed with Boosie.’ I said, ‘He finally came up,'” she explained.
Apart from his professional achievements, Playbwoi The Great is also a loving father. He leaves behind a 17-year-old son who is also pursuing a rap career.
His son, who goes by the stage name “Cowboy,” inherited his father’s musical legacy. When LeShor thought back to their last conversation, the loss hit her hardest.
“Before we hung up, I always heard that soft voice. Mom, I love you. I didn’t know it would be the last time I heard his voice,” she said, her voice breaking as she remembered their last exchange.
Police interviewed one person of interest in the shooting and later released them. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted because the producer was recovering from being shot months earlier.
As the Indianapolis music community mourns the loss of one of its brightest talents, the investigation into the death of Playbwoi The Great continues.
