“That’s the day I lose my membership.”
A woman had an unusual and difficult experience while shopping at a Sam’s Club in Los Angeles that went viral after she posted about it. This was because another woman in a pink shirt (referred to by commenters as “the pink shirt lady”) had a roast chicken snatched from her hand even though she was already touching it.
In a viral video posted by Quads (@quadslikemeech), she shows how close Sam’s Club’s product line sometimes resembles The Hunger Games. Although the “pink shirt lady” claimed there was another woman there before the quad, there was nothing to justify her lining up behavior. The video has now been viewed 9.4 million times, with thousands saying Quads’ ability to control his anger was amazing considering how the woman was treated in the queue. Others said they would not be as helpful.
Whatever happened to the Sam’s Club grilled chicken line?
The four of them went to buy Mark’s Rotisserie Chicken from Sam’s Club. She happened to be wearing her video-shooting glasses while shopping, like a pair of Meta AI glasses. So she captured a particularly small encounter there.
In the video, she approaches the members’ tag hotbar from the left. A motley group of onlookers, waiting for the roast chicken, approached from the right. There, she watched a woman in a pink shirt grab a rotisserie chicken and place it into a small green plastic bag.
A Sam’s Club employee placed another chicken on top of the hot incubator and Quaz reached for it. However, as she touched the chicken, the “lady in pink” grabbed the chicken and moved it to the right side.
Surprised by the situation, the four said, “Okay.” Just then, the woman in the pink shirt turned to her and said, “She came before you.” Quazi said, “It’s okay,” and turned to the woman, only to see her with another person. Seconds later, when she got the roast chicken, she turned to the woman again and saw her smirking at the situation. They briefly made eye contact, and the woman in the pink shirt shrugged.
Is Sam’s Club chicken really that competitive?
Many commenters joked that they would put their hands on the rotisserie chicken, especially considering how rude the woman in the pink shirt was. This led some to question: Was there a reason the woman in the pink shirt was handing the roast chicken to another customer? Are chickens really that competitive?
The video shows the store handing out freshly cooked chicken. Many Sam’s Clubs make two or even three batches of rotisserie chicken in a day instead of just one. While extremely inconvenient, anyone who didn’t get their chicken can wait for the next batch. But regardless, there’s a good chance that a large number of people will get one.
Rotisserie chicken is $4.98 (excluding tax) at Sam’s Club. Viewed in context, this makes the Quads’ situation even worse. The woman who snatched the chicken did so to avoid the four-second delay that other customers would have to pay for their $5 product, which was probably not worth fighting over.
It’s also not a case of them individually picking out rotisserie chickens, as customers simply grab the first chicken they can buy. On the Sam’s Club website, some customers complained that larger rotisserie chickens tended to be undercooked in some areas. Therefore, customers can sometimes be picky and try to find the perfect product before going home. But in this case, the complex production line doesn’t give Sam’s Club members enough time to make special selections.
For all these reasons, it’s unlikely that the Chickens will actually create a competitive environment worthy of any insignificant amount. Instead, the woman voluntarily decided to be petty.
Commenters mentioned that Quads handle this situation well. But many people realize that they probably wouldn’t do this if they were put in a very similar situation. The woman’s little actions of taking away the chicken – including her comments about others being first in line – angered most TikTok users.
Most viewers mentioned that it’s really not a woman’s job to carry someone else’s roast chicken, even though she technically came before the Quads. Some viewers reported that the move felt like something that would happen to Walmart, which isn’t surprising considering Sam’s Club is a division of the giant conglomerate. But even without that context, the move feels particularly hostile.
Overall, TikTok is not on the side of women at all. Instead, they wanted the woman to have a chance to understand Quade’s perspective and realize how offensive her chicken-stealing behavior was.
AllHipHop reached out to Sam’s Club via the press form and Quads via TikTok private messages and comments. If they respond, we’ll let you know.
