Pittsburgh indie label Arucca Flyboy is making a splash with Stone Soup Vol. Just one day after its release, “1” climbed to No. 17 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Albums Chart.
Independent music continues to prove that big moments are no longer the preserve of major labels. Just one day after its release, Stone Soup Vol. Pittsburgh-based indie label Arucca Flyboy’s latest compilation album “1” has climbed to No. 17 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Albums chart, becoming one of the label’s strongest chart performances to date.
The project debuted at No. 40 and quickly rose up the charts, showing strong early support from listeners and further strengthening Arucca Flyboy’s reputation within indie hip-hop.
Standalone version makes early impact
For founder Antjuan “Tjuan Benafactor” Washington and the Arucca Flyboy team, the ranking represents another milestone in the brand’s steady growth since its inception in 2007.
According to rankings, stone soup rolls. 1 ranks alongside releases from hip-hop’s biggest artists and labels, illustrating the growing influence of Tjuan Benafactor and his Arucca Flyboy imprint in today’s streaming and digital marketplace.
The meteoric rise reflects the enthusiasm surrounding the project and the loyal audience the brand has cultivated over nearly two decades.
Collaboration-based assembly
The 11-track project brings together a diverse cast of artists from the Arucca Flyboy family and its collaborators.
Featured performers include Tjuan Benafactor, CyCy Couture, Nahligebone, Chickii Chick, DeeHerm DaVoice, Gutta Reese, Slim, Lil’ Flip and more, creating a compilation that highlights a variety of sounds while maintaining a cohesive hip-hop sound.
Production was handled by DJ Banger, Tjuan Benafactor, Mixking Magic, Anno Domini, Joe Novell and others, giving the album a variety of musical styles while maintaining authentic hip-hop production.
Continuing a tradition of independent success
Stone soup rolls. 1 follows two previous Arucca Flyboy compilation projects that helped establish the label in the independent music scene.
The label’s first compilation album, 80’s Babies, was hosted by DJ Vlad, who introduced the collaboration, while “Gone But Never Forgotten” debuted on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts upon release. In addition to the chart position, the release highlights Pittsburgh’s continued contribution to independent hip-hop.
“We dropped this yesterday and we were already No. 17 on iTunes,” said Cory Eaux, Arucca Flyboy’s director of artist relations. “This is for Pittsburgh. This is for independent music.”
