Akon would turn a joke about his hair into a hit song. The mogul opened up about his hair journey in a recent interview, humorously touching on his once-beloved wig. Akon didn’t shy away from the topic.
“Oh, my [hair] Always a topic. Correct. forever. Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur asked him about “fresh baldness” in a new interview with AllHipHop. Akon explains that this is just part of his evolution. “There’s nothing not to laugh about, bro,” he said in response to the online troll.
“I had a lot of dark-skinned guys, you know, who were jealous of the waves,” joked Akon. He was ahead of his time, saying: “That was the moment I had the surgery… I had a patch on my head, I’m actually putting it up for sale!”
He added that it’s surprising that many celebrities people look up to also wear wigs, although this is usually kept quiet.
Akon’s relaxed attitude changed when he talked about his new song, which he took very seriously.
“Akon’s Beautiful Day” quickly rose up the charts. The song took TikTok by storm, becoming the platform’s most shared and reimagined song.
“So you understand the significance of the song we have right now,” Akon said. “It’s the No. 1 song on TikTok…the fastest-growing song right now. We debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts, to We’ll be number one when the holidays really start.
As for his upcoming album, Akon says he will combine the greatness of old-school albums with new-school innovation.
“This album is going to be one of the albums that I think has the potential to change the way music is presented,” he explains. “Not only does it bring it back to the old way we used to distribute music, but it also creates a more futuristic perspective and approach.”
