Akon was one of them, but he had many wives. He just didn’t say how many.
Akon finally lifts the curtain on one of hip-hop’s most mysterious subjects: what really happens when you have multiple wives and everyone knows who’s running the show.
The 53-year-old singer recently appeared on the We Need To Talk podcast and confirmed that, yes, he still has multiple wives. No, he won’t tell anyone exactly how much.
“I’ll just leave this to your imagination,” Akon said. No, it is. How many?
He did say one thing: there was only one husband in the arrangement. He was the one and they couldn’t have another one. He made it very clear. There is another layer. The first lady sits on the throne, and the others are side queens.
“That’s why you get one, two or three. She’s the queen,” he explained. “Nobody assaulted Wife No. 1. If they did, they would be kicked out of the house.”
I’d like to know who that person is, and I’m sure you know where things are headed.
Akon admits that the hardest job belongs to the first wife, who has to welcome new personalities, new attitudes and new habits into the family without ruining everything.
“As new people join your family, there will be new attitudes, new ways of thinking, new behaviors,” he said. This is crazy to me.
Akon also revealed that most of us know that men must serve everyone equally. That’s a lot of money that most people don’t have.
Eggs and concert tickets cost the same now, man. I’m not talking about IVF (in vitro fertilization).
Akon said the entire system works because of communication, maturity and clearly established rules.
However, they did not delve into his personal career.
Last year, Tomeka Thiam, his wife since 1996, filed for divorce in September 2025, just four days before their 29th wedding anniversary. I hope this interview shows that he gets along better with the First Lady.
