J. Cole dropped a surprise project on Thursday night (April 4), and it’s a special surprise for those who’ve listened to all 12 tracks. Final single “7 Minute Drill” finds the Dreamville Records boss firing back at Kendrick Lamar, who took issue with Cole and Drake on their recent Future and Metro Boomin’ song “Like That.”
On his verse, Cole praises K. Dot’s debut album, 2011’s “Section.80” and 2017’s “DAMN.” But he ruined his latest effort, Mr. Morale and the Great Stepper 2022. He also said, good boy, mAAd city doesn’t deserve the accolades it received upon its release.
“Your first sh## was classic, your last sh## was tragic,” he complained. “Your second ### put n### to sleep, but they gassed it/Your third ### was a huge hit, that was your peak/I followed, but I It just hit me now.”
In addition to the K. Dot diss, the 43-minute project also features Gucci Mane, Dipset rapper Cam’ron, Ab-Soul, Central Cee and battle rapper Daylyt, as well as Dreamville artists Bas and Ari Lennox. Of course, Twitter (X) exploded with reactions to the album, especially “7 Minute Drill.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” lyrics helped the song reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Apple Music, Spotify US and Spotify Global. “We Don’t Trust You” is taken from the latest collaboration between Future and Metro Boomin. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and set the highest first-week sales of 2024.
Metro Boomin’ was quick to celebrate the achievement, sharing a screenshot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart on his Instagram with the caption, “Hip-hop is booming.” Judging by the excitement that erupted on Twitter, he might be right.
