SEVENTEEN are set to break ground in the UK this summer as they become the first K-pop group to perform on the main stage at Glastonbury Festival.
The band have been booked to perform at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, joining a group headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA and Shania Twain Headlining numerous performances.
The five-day festival will take place from 26 to 30 June 2024 at Ivisworthy Farm in Pilton, South West England.
Avril Lavigne, Cyndi Lauper and Camila Cabello also made their Glasto debut, while rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic music stars also filled out the lineup, From Idles to Burna Boy, Little Simz, The Last Evening Party, LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Janella Monae and more.
Glastonbury, the granddaddy of British music festivals, held on Michael Eavis’ dairy farm, will welcome more than 210,000 party-goers this summer – more people than Norwich or Oxford The population is even larger. Tickets were sold out before the lineup was announced on Thursday.
In 2023, girl group Blackpink broke barriers and became the first K-pop band to headline a UK festival, performing in front of 65,000 people at London’s BST Hyde Park.
CARAT will also have the opportunity to see SEVENTEEN on continental European soil when the pop band headlines Berlin’s Lollapalooza later this summer – a first for K-pop.
Lollapalooza Berlin is scheduled to take place on September 7 and 8 at the Olympic Stadium and Olympic Park in the German capital and includes Sam Smith, Martin Garrix, Burna Boy, The Chainsmokers, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Shirin David and CRO.
Acting pays off. SEVENTEEN was originally scheduled to visit Europe during the 2020 ODE TO YOU world tour, but these performances were canceled due to the epidemic.
SEVENTEEN has had a stellar year, during which the group sold 16 million albums worldwide, including their 10th mini-album FML (April 2023) and follow-up album SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN ( October 2023).
“FML” topped the IFPI global album chart based on streaming, downloads and physical sales in 2023, with total global sales of 6.2 million. The album is the most pre-ordered album in K-pop history, ranking No. 1 in 2023. South Korea and Japan, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and helping SEVENTEEN reach No. 2 on the league’s Global Artist Chart behind Taylor Swift, confirming the group. The 13-piece band achieved the status of the world’s most popular band last year.
