Beyoncé gives fans an up-close look at Jaÿ-Z’s hair transformation from long locks to an afro in a new mini-documentary.
Bey’s Cécred hair brand shared the clip, titled “The Blueprint,” on their YouTube channel on Monday (June 22). The seven-minute video chronicles Hough’s decision to sport her signature hairdos more than eight years after her transplants, ditching them in favor of an afro that debuted at Roots Picnic last month.
“Everyone wants to know the details of Jay’s hair transformation,” Bey began, before revealing that the decision was made as a tribute to Hough’s late father.
“Jay told me a few months ago that he was planning on sorting out his venue for The Roots’ Philly show,” she said. “He wanted to do it in honor of his dad. His name is Adnis Reeves and his favorite sports team was from Philadelphia. His dad used to rock and roll, so he wanted to rock in his name.”
The superstar singer didn’t initially believe her husband’s hair could actually be undone, but she said the family eventually worked together to carefully remove them with the help of Cécred products. The process became a shared experience, with Bey, their daughter Blue Ivy and others participating in what she calls a “labor of love.”
Bey also revealed that the reason Jay originally grew his hair long was to show Blue that “her hair was just like his hair,” with the five-year-old saying at the time that she was self-conscious about her hair texture.
“Hair is growing. People are growing. So the shift could be emotional,” Bay said.
