YNW Melly made several attempts to be released before his initial trial and retrial, but after seven years in prison, YNW Melly was once again denied bail.
The South Florida rapper will have his latest bail hearing on Thursday (April 30), the first with his new legal team. A ruling on whether he will be released ahead of his double murder trial has been delayed. On Wednesday (May 6), Judge Martin S. Fein of Broward County, Florida, made the final decision to refuse to release the rapper.
Melly has been fighting for bail over the past few years and even sued the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in 2024, claiming they violated his human rights in an attempt to get him released. However, his efforts did not bear fruit.
Melly is accused of killing two of his childhood friends in 2018. His first trial in 2023 ended in a mistrial, and prosecutors decided to reopen the case. Since then, there have been multiple delays. In October of the same year, Mellie was also charged with witness tampering. The charges were dropped in January.
Last August, Melly disbanded his legal team and hired high-powered attorney Drew Findling as his counsel. Findling is also investigating the murder-for-hire case of Lil Dekker. His client list also includes Cardi B, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, YFN Lucci and more.
YNW Melly’s retrial is now scheduled for January next year.
