Young Thug insists he is changing his name amid the Jeffrey Epstein controversy.
On Wednesday (April 29), Thugger responded to a post on X in which he commented on the declining public interest in the Epstein files. The tweet also included photos, presumably taken from the Justice Department’s Epstein files, showing the late financier and convicted child sex abuser with multiple women whose faces had been edited.
“I’m going to change my name ASAP, bro,” wrote Sager, whose real name was Jeffrey Williams.
Shortly after, Meek Mill chimed in and asked Sager if he knew what his new name was.
“What did you change it to?” Mick asked.
This isn’t the first time Young Thug has considered changing his name. Back in 2016, 300 Entertainment label head Lyor Cohen announced that Thug would be changing his rap name to align with Jeffery’s album.
“Young Thug is no longer Young Thug. His new name is going to be, No My Name Is Jeffery. That’s his new name,” Cohen told the Rap Radar podcast.
“It’s a cyclical thing and it’s important. I’m very excited,” he continued of the name change. “Please respect that we continue to use his name, okay? Because it’s important.”
In 2018, Thug announced that he would change his stage name to Sex. Although the new name was never adopted, he still uses the moniker on Instagram.
