In 2002, Jam Master Jay was killed in a horrific shooting. Soon after, the Run DMC group name was retired as a final tribute and show of respect to the other members of Run DMC. Now, some 24 years after his death, one of the three men accused of the crime has finally been held accountable.
The man, 52-year-old Jay Bryant, finally pleaded guilty in Brooklyn federal court to the murder of Jay Master Jay. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, “Kobe entered the building housing the recording studio and opened the locked fire exit door,” allowing Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington to “enter the building” without being detected.
The statement also acknowledged the time that has passed since the criminal investigation, noting that “Jason Mizell was brutally murdered more than 20 years ago, but thanks to our investigators, partners at the ATF and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, the case has never been forgotten and those responsible are now being held accountable.”
