Influencer Ashlee Jenae, the fiancée of Crypto founder Joe McCann, is being questioned by Tanzanian police after she was found dead.
Joe McCann’s fiancée, lifestyle influencer Ashlee Jenae, was found dead at a luxury resort in Zanzibar on April 9 and is being detained by Tanzanian police for questioning.
Ashlee Jenae has over 110,000 followers on Instagram.
She was found unresponsive in her villa at Zuri Resort on the island of Zanzibar and was pronounced dead hours later at a nearby hospital.
The 31-year-old has been celebrating her birthday with crypto fund founder McCann, 45, just days after he proposed to her on April 3 during a trip.
The situation has gotten worse since authorities revealed the couple got into a heated argument on April 8, prompting resort staff to move McCann to another room for safety reasons.
McCann claimed he returned with a security guard to check on Ashley Jenner and found her hanging on the door.
Hospital reports documented marks on her neck, and the official cause of death was listed as strangulation leading to lack of oxygen to the brain.
However, Ashlee Jenae’s family has publicly questioned claims of suicide, calling her death “suspicious” and questioning the timeline of events.
Ashlee Jenae’s mother, Yolanda Denise Endres, told ABC13 that McCann didn’t contact her until 11 hours after Robinson’s body was found.
“He told me what Ashley had done to her, that she was taken to the hospital, and he told me she was in stable condition,” Endres said. “I told me what happened and he told me it was 11 hours ago.”
Her sister Alyssa Endres, 20, described Ashlee Jenae as a vibrant person whose social media presence reflected genuine happiness, which made suicide seem “extremely” out of character for her.
“Chapter 31, I’m right where I need to be,” Ashlee Jenae wrote in her last Instagram post, uploaded on April 7, along with photos from the trip that showed her smiling with McCann among zebras and wildlife.
Just the day before her death, she posted a video of her vacation with the caption, “If this was a dream, no one would wake me up.”
McCann is being questioned as a witness rather than a suspect and his travel documents have been seized pending further investigations.
McCann is the founder of Ametry Financial, a cryptocurrency-focused venture capital and hedge fund backed by prominent investors Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon.
He has positioned himself as an advocate for institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies and regularly speaks at major industry conferences.
Meanwhile, Ashlee Jenae has built her platform around documenting what she calls a “soft living” philosophy centered on positivity and gratitude, a lifestyle that resonates with her growing audience.
Her family issued a statement saying they trusted Tanzanian officials while seeking clarification about the circumstances surrounding her death.
