Suge Knight’s memoir ‘Your Pain Is My Joy’ tells stories about beef, Diddy and more

Suge Knight’s unfiltered prison memoir hits shelves on August 4, finally revealing his thoughts on the chaotic reign of Tupac, Diddy and Death Row Records.

Suge Knight is about to release his memoir from prison, which will provide an absolutely unfiltered account of what happened during hip-hop’s most chaotic era.

The 352-page book, titled “Your Pain Is My Joy,” hits shelves on August 4, 2026, and is published by Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books. Knight has been writing the book while serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter.

Knight co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in 1991, and together they built one of the most dominant rap labels of the mid-’90s, featuring such giants as Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and countless other West Coast legends.

The memoir promises readers a “thrilling ride” through rap’s golden era and the streets of Compton, as Knight tells a story that has been twisted and debated for three decades.

He has been described as the most feared man in hip-hop, known for his towering stature, ties to the Compton Bloods gang and a history of violent conflicts that have shaped the entire industry.

The book covers everything from his legendary encounter with Vanilla Ice to his heated argument with Diddy and the night he and Tupac were gunned down in Las Vegas, with Knight ultimately giving his side of the story as a passenger in the 1996 drive-by shooting.

The way Death Row Records shaped West Coast rap still resonates today, and Knight’s memoir aims to reveal never-before-seen details about the label’s rise and fall.

Knight was a central and polarizing figure, and this memoir represents his first opportunity to tell his story directly to the world, without filter or apology.

The synopsis states that he “pulls no punches, asks for no mercy, and explains exactly how he fought his way to the top,” meaning readers should expect honesty from him about his business practices, his relationships with major artists, and his role in some of hip-hop’s most controversial moments.

Knight wrote the entire manuscript while incarcerated, making the book one of the most anticipated hip-hop memoirs in recent years.

An audiobook version has also been released, narrated by professional voice actors, allowing fans to experience Knight’s perspective on decades of industry drama and personal struggles in a variety of ways.

Major retailers have started pre-ordering.
