The murder trial of Dallas rapper Yella Beezy has been postponed to August 24 after her mother died earlier this month. Yella Beezy was devastated and unable to attend the Jan. 16 pretrial hearing because he was dealing with the death of his mother.
His lawyers told the court they needed more time to process the family tragedy and what prosecutors called an overabundance of evidence. Judge Chika Anyiam granted a motion to postpone filed Jan. 12 by defense attorneys John Gussio and Toby Shook.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin on February 2.
Yella Beezy faces capital murder charges for allegedly hiring Kewon White and Devin Maurice Brown to kill Dallas rapper MO3 in November 2020. Prosecutors said Yella Beezy paid the pair to shoot MO3 on Interstate 35E during rush hour.
Defense teams say they are being inundated with discovery material. Court documents reveal prosecutors leaked more than 16 terabytes of digital evidence to Yella Beezy’s lawyers. They include surveillance footage, phone records, jail calls and video files of the highway chase captured in an 18-wheeler.
“The majority of the findings are irrelevant to]Yella Beezy,” his attorneys wrote in the motion. “This discovery is not material to the outcome of the case. Nor does it reveal any new or relevant facts about the case.”
The document continues: “There are audit files, jail calls and numerous other documents that are not relevant to the case. There are video files where many minutes have passed and nothing has happened. There are numerous video files and other data showing or describing the same incident, but the data is duplicated.”
Gymboree! Where do I start? My mom, my sister, my best friend, my world, my everything… I’m so empty right now I can’t even explain it. I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy…my BaccBone, my life…how would I live without you? Who should I talk to… pic.twitter.com/1yruTtfZlL

Yella Beezy paid tribute to his mother on Instagram. He shared photos and videos of them together over the years.
“Gymbaby! Where do I start? My mom, my sisters, my best friends, my world, my everything…I am so empty right now I can’t even explain it,” he wrote. “I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy…my BaccBone, my life…how would I live without you?”
The rapper has been under house arrest and electronically monitored since posting $750,000 bail in March 2025. His bail was initially set at $2 million but was later reduced.
White and Brown also face capital murder charges in the same case. White’s trial was postponed from February 2 to August 24, the same day as Yella Beezy’s new trial.
If convicted of murder, Yella Beezy, White and Brown each face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The two sides will meet again next week to finalize a new August trial schedule and address remaining pretrial motions.
