A new podcast exploring the life and legacy of DMX is officially in the works.
According to Deadline, the new series “Look Thru My Eyes: Becoming DMX” will be executive produced by 50 Cent through G-Unit Audio and presented by Jadakiss. The project is produced in partnership with iHeartPodcasts and will be available on all major podcast platforms later this year.
The podcast will center around DMX’s early life in Yonkers, New York, long before he became famous. DMX was born Earl Simmons. His journey as a young artist navigating adversity, ambition and the local rap scene that shaped his sound and reputation will be chronicled in the first season.
The series will be hosted by Jadakiss, a Yonkers native and contemporary of DMX, and will include first-hand recollections of family, childhood friends, collaborators, competitors and cultural icons from DMX’s early journey. Rather than revisiting his most famous moments, the podcast attempts to contextualize the experiences and circumstances that shaped his artistic vision and philosophy.
Veteran audio producer Drew Nelles (Crimetown, The Binge Crimes) will serve as showrunner. Executive producers include Workhouse Media’s Noah Rosenberg and Paul Anderson, as well as Bruce Miller and Justin Baez, both Yonkers natives with personal ties to DMX and his family.
“DMX’s story is bigger than the music – it’s about survival, faith, pain and purpose,” said 50 Cent. “Seeing Through My Eyes: Being DMX gives people the opportunity to understand where X came from before becoming famous through the voices of people who were actually there. These are the stories that build legends.”
