NBA YoungBoy steps into the documentary spotlight with a new concert film that promises to capture his stage presence and the personal journey behind his massive cultural impact.
Foundation Media Partners announced they will produce and distribute the project with the Louisiana rapper’s new production company, 38 Films, Variety reports.
The documentary will be directed by Nico Ballesteros, who directed the controversial film In Whose Name? “About Kanye West, the film was released in theaters last September.
The project goes beyond typical concert footage, with producers promising to explore YoungBoy’s influences and lived realities while touring at hip-hop’s highest levels.
Patrick Hughes, CEO of Foundation Media Partners, said the rapper represents more than just music.
“NBA YoungBoy is more than just an artist, he’s a cultural force,” Hughes said in a statement. “Through Nico’s vision, the film captures that energy with cinematic honesty while giving viewers a true window into who he is beyond the stage.”
Now is the perfect time to chronicle the momentum of YoungBoy’s career.
The release of the documentary comes as YoungBoy continues to release new music, including his most recent single “Creep Up on Ya,” with a full album expected soon. His previous version, MASA debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in July.
His touring prowess has also reached impressive heights.
Pollstar recently ranked NBA YoungBoy as the 13th largest tour worldwide, with average revenue per city of $1.6 million. AllHipHop previously reported that his Make America Slime Again tour earned more than $70 million from 42 shows, placing him among the top ten touring artists.
Ballesteros spent six years recording Kanye West’s “In Whose Name?” ”, which gave him a unique perspective on capturing polarizing hip-hop personalities. His collaboration with YoungBoy will likely focus on the artist’s true personality rather than manufactured moments.
No release schedule has been announced yet, but Foundation and 38 Films are working on a theatrical and streaming distribution strategy.
The project is YoungBoy’s first major documentary, despite his years of dominance in hip-hop.
