Dank Demoss settled a discrimination lawsuit against Left this summer after a Detroit driver refused to ride her, claiming his weight would damage his car, court documents say.
The 36-year-old rapper and influential man’s real name is Dajua Blanding, and captured the January incident in the video when she ordered Lyft to attend the Detroit Lion Watch Party.
As she approaches the vehicle, the driver tells her that he cannot complete the journey.
Brandin said in the video: “I can fit in this car.” The driver replied: “Believe me, you can’t.”
He then claimed that his tires could not support her weight, apologized and suggested that she book the Uber XL. He also offered to cancel the journey so that she could not be charged.
“My car is going to be small,” Brandin told Fox 2 Detroit. “I just hope they know it hurts my feelings.”
Her attorney, Zach Runyan, confirmed earlier this year that the lawsuit was “settled” but refused to share details of the agreement.
Branding’s legal team believes that denial of service based on her scale is comparable to discrimination based on race or religion.
“I know that’s illegal, I know that’s wrong,” when attorney Jonathan Marko filed the lawsuit.
Dank Demoss has built over 234,000 followers on Instagram, where she promotes physical enthusiasm and shares her music. Since 2019, she has released songs like “So What”, “Heef My Pain” and “No Love” and has used her platform to address discrimination and self-acceptance issues.
Videos of the Lyft incident have been circulating widely online, triggering a wider conversation about how ride-sharing companies deal with bias. Lyft’s community guide prohibits discrimination based on physical characteristics, etc.
The company has not issued a public statement about the settlement.
