Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day speech both reinforced the promises he made during the campaign and kicked off his administration’s ambitious plan to transform America through policy.
On Monday (January 20), Trump delivered a 30-minute speech after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Throughout his lengthy speech, Trump’s comments vacillated between caution and outright celebration. On the one hand, he appears to claim to be a leader sent from God, claiming divine intervention that spared him from fatal injuries in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last year.
On the other hand, he touted himself as the change America needs, promising to make cities safe again and taxing foreign entities through tariffs to benefit states. Trump even elicited reactions from Hillary Clinton and Elon Musk as he promised to rename the Gulf of Mexico after the United States and plant the Stars and Stripes on Mars. While Clinton mocked his Gulf plans, Musk cheered the mention of Mars — marking a stark divide between Trump supporters and opponents

Elsewhere, though, his speech touched on more serious topics such as race and gender. In addition to confirming that he previously signed an executive order forcing the United States to recognize only two genders, Trump also announced that his administration will end what he claims is the “social engineering of race and gender” that permeates every aspect of diversity and ethics in the United States. form. Additionally, Trump claimed he had reached a new ownership deal with TikTok after being praised by the company for protecting them from a government ban.
Speaking about the huge assessment of TikTok, Trump explained that he negotiated a deal in which the United States would own a large portion of the app so that it could continue to operate.
“So I said I would approve it, but let the United States of America own 50 percent of TikTok,” Trump said. “I approve it on behalf of the United States. So the United States will do what we call a joint venture and there is no risk that we won’t put any money in. All we do is give them the approval.
