The family of the late “Fat” Scoop are hosting a celebration after his unexpected death last month.
An announcement was posted on Fatman Scoop’s Instagram account on Tuesday (September 9) containing details of the commemoration. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 12th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm ET at the iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem.

The famed New York City hip-hop artist passed away on August 30 from a medical emergency while performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the 53-year-old died shortly after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The town of Hamden held a candlelight vigil on Friday night (September 6) at the site of his final performance to commemorate the life of Fatman Schoop.
Following Fatman Schoop’s death, his family issued a statement expressing their deep sadness and paying tribute to the man they described as “a radiant soul, a beacon of stage and life” .
The statement also acknowledged his presence as a father, brother, uncle and friend who was a constant source of support, joy and laughter.
“His infectious joy and generosity will be deeply missed but never forgotten,” the statement concluded. “Fatman Scoop’s legacy is one of love and light; it will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
