Gloria was given a key to the city in her hometown of Memphis—and she received it on a perfect day.
Memphis, home to the 901 area code, celebrates “901 Day” on September 1, the day Big Glo received the keys to the Bluff City.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young, rapper/songwriter Kia Shine and others were on hand to celebrate the CMG rapper’s achievements.
Glo shared a photo from the day on Instagram, saying, “Memphis made me, Frazier raised me. [teary eyed emoji] I got the key to my cityyyyy ahhhhh [celebration emojis] Happy 901 Day Memphis! !
In other news, GloRilla recently handled a budding controversy by listening to and responding to criticism, and received plenty of praise in return.
The Memphis spitter shared a snippet of the song on social media last week, and her choice of words in it surprised some fans.
“Hey, you gotta have no idea what you started/Me and my retarded bitch,” it begins.
Some fans were disappointed with Glo’s use of the “r” word, calling it “offensive,” “derogatory” and “slanderous,” with some of the responses captured by Neighborhood Talk .
When Big Glo shared another teaser for the song via an Instagram post, the offensive word had been replaced with the word “go naughty.” You can check it out for yourself here .
Reviews of the revised lyrics have been overwhelmingly positive.
“I love how you changed the R word in your song. I’m not offended but it’s true,” one person wrote.
“Oh, she changed the lyrics in case it hurt someone’s feelings [clapping hands emoji] [praise hands emoji],” typed another.
“Glad you changed it,” added a third.
GloRilla also recently addressed the ongoing claims that she is sexualized by her brand, CMG.
The “FNF (Let’s Go)” rapper shared a video on Thursday (August 29) refuting the claims and explaining why she’s excited about showing off her body.
She began: “You guys have a lot to say because I previewed [inaudible] I held my nipples and danced to my song. Don’t worry about what me and my tits are doing. Bitch, I bought them… Talk about some shit like ‘oh the record company made GloRilla do this’. Bitch, this label isn’t going to get me anywhere. A hoe is a hoe.
“It’s not like there weren’t any labels trying to get me to do things. It’s about me looking for a hoe,” she concludes with a laugh. “You guys always think, ‘They’re trying to oversexualize Gro, like she’s a tomboy. Bitch, when I didn’t have boobs, I was a tomboy. I have boobs now.
