Octavian and Drake have admired each other’s skills for years. As early as 2018 at the Golden Globes party, the latter rapped to Octavian’s “Party Here” single. 6god noticed and retweeted the song on his Insta. Also real, not a plot twist account that took the internet by storm. Drake has been keeping his fans well fed in recent weeks, but Octavian is determined to flood the streets with more Drizzy music. He previewed the unreleased collaboration at an Aug. 27 show.
First of all, the concert looks crazy. The quality of the film isn’t the best, but Octavian has clearly given fans what they wanted. That said, the most exciting part is the music. Octavian dances on stage and raps along with his verses. Then we hear Drake spit. The clip only lasts thirty seconds, but it’s long enough for us to realize that there’s a bomb hidden in Octavian and Drake’s stash. The crowd must have loved it. It sounds like Drizzy also has a British accent on the untitled song. This decision makes sense given that Octavian is a leading figure in the field of current exercises.
Octavian and Drake have been rocking it since 2018
Drake’s passion for British rap is undeniable. This was arguably the least successful in terms of crossover song scores, but the rapper continued to adopt the practiced sound and style. He recorded two Drill songs on 2017’s More Life and two more on 2020’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes. This prompted widespread criticism from British artists, who felt that Drake was playing the culture vulture card. He responded to these criticisms in a 2019 interview with the BBC.
In Drake’s eyes, he’s helping to shine a light on the sound he loves. “This is some confusing hater shit,” the rapper told the outlet. “I’ve seen it so many times. I’ll never understand how to support someone’s song, or better yet, give someone a song, to connect with. I’ll never understand why that’s not seen as something to be admired.” Octavian is one of the British rappers who agrees with Drake. He sent flowers to the rapper as a co-sign, but clarified that he wanted to use the co-sign to build his own brand. “This proves that it’s possible,” he told Pitchfork. Fingers crossed we hear the full collaboration soon.
