T-Pain has publicly stated that the start of his career was both profitable and costly in the long run.

In a candid interview with Vallejo rapper LaRussell, T-Pain talks about the surprising and unfavorable terms of his first record deal, revealing the challenges he faced as a young artist entering the music industry .

Looking back on the deal, T-Pain revealed there was a huge difference between the revenue share he received as an artist and what the label received in return as part of the agreement.

“My first deal. The price of the whole first one was 18…oh no, it was 85-15. Good for the label, 85-15. Even though the terms were unbalanced, T-Pain didn’t care initially because he was I was blinded by the huge amount of money being offered. “But they offered me crazy money, so I didn’t, never even thought about it. Not even a second thought. I just didn’t care, man.

The deal was sealed quickly, and T-Pain recalls how the excitement of receiving such significant progress overshadowed concerns about the long-term impact.

“They just said, OK, the deal is done. Here you go,” he said. As time went on, however, T-Pain began to realize the full impact of the deal on his earnings.

“Did you get royalty checks before? Oh, yeah, a lot. I still get a lot of royalties. I’ll probably never not get royalties. “I gotta go look at my deal. I was like, oh , I’m about to get paid. It’s like, no, not really. I was like, man, no way. They said, ’cause this is your signature…”

T-Pain admitted that his decision was driven by greed and the influence of those around him who convinced him to accept the deal. “That was just greed. A lot of people said, man, this is a lot of money. You need to accept this. This is a huge improvement. It was originally 40 million, but then it took 40 meters to completely zero.

Despite learning the hard lessons from his first record deal, T-Pain has gone on to achieve great success in the music industry. His 2005 debut album, Rappa Ternt Sanga, spawned hits such as “I’m Sprung” and “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” and cemented his place in the music industry. The album was certified gold and T-Pain continued to dominate the charts with his signature Auto-Tune sound.
