A judge has dismissed a $1 billion lawsuit against 50 Cent filed by a former drug dealer who claimed the hit TV series “Power” was based on his life.
50 Cent wins $1 billion lawsuit
The second lawsuit filed against 50 Cent over the crime drama series “Power” has been concluded after three years. On August 1, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed Cory Holland’s $1 billion defamation claim that his life was the basis for the show, according to court documents obtained by XXL on Monday (August 5) litigation. “Plaintiffs have failed to establish personal jurisdiction or assert a claim,” the ruling said. It also noted that the similarities between Holland’s life and Ball’s were too pervasive to consider. Additionally, the judge dismissed a $30 million ancillary lawsuit filed by Holland claiming that 50 people made threatening comments to him.
Holland originally sued 50 Cent, Lionsgate and the show’s creator Courtney A. Kemp in May 2021.
“I counted over 100 scenes in this series that are true events from my life,” Holland wrote in the original lawsuit. “I hope the defendants pay a price for violating my privacy…”

50 Cent reacts to verdict
On August 3, 50 Cent responded to the verdict on Instagram. He shared a screenshot of a news article about the verdict and wrote in the post’s caption: “Fools who thought he was a ghost are wrong.” [ninja emoji]man haha.
This is the second lawsuit 50 Cent has won over his hit series. In 2015, Fif was sued by Larry Johnson, who claimed that he copied a 2005 manuscript he wrote titled “Tribulation of a Ghetto Kid” Passed to Nikki Turner of G-Unit Books. The $200 million case was dismissed in 2017.
