There is a lot to talk about during the 2023/2024 NBA regular season. Highlights to watch include LeBron James crossing the 40,000-point mark, Victor Wembanyama entering the NBA, Jalen Brunson’s impressive season and more . However, while there have been many great moments this season, there have also been some pretty shocking ones. It’s been a forgettable season for the Detroit Pistons, who have lost 27 games in a row. An era may be over as the Golden State Warriors fail to make the playoffs, while Kevin Durant and the Suns disappoint once again. It’s been an NBA season filled with drama, excitement and a lot of absurdity. Let’s relive the most bizarre moments of the 2023/2024 NBA season.

7. Anthony Blake and Graddy Dick jersey swap

March 18, 2024, Orlando Magic vs. Toronto Raptors. While the game didn’t have many notable moments, what happened next had the internet abuzz. Two rookies from the two teams, Anthony Blake of the Orlando Magic and Grady Dick of the Toronto Raptors, met and exchanged greetings after the game. However, in greetings, they orchestrated what would eventually become a viral basketball meme. The rookies agreed to swap jerseys and pose for the camera. Why? Well, the names on their jerseys are Black and Dick. You don’t need any more explanation, but these newbies know what they’re doing.

6. Jimmy Butler’s NBA media day look

The Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler views NBA Media Day as something special. Ahead of media days for the 2023/2024 NBA season, Jimmy reinvented himself in true style, wowing his teammates with a new look. The 34-year-old rocked his hair, which was completely straightened, covering one of his eyes. He completed his rock star look with eye, nose and lip piercings. Jimmy also painted his nails to add color to his “emo” look. He sarcastically told reporters that his expression reflected his emotional state, adding, “Me and my emotions are one.” One can only wonder what new look Jimmy will rock for next season’s press days .

5. Robin Lopez reads during games after being traded to Bucks

Robin Lopez met a terrible fate in the 2023/2024 NBA season. Perhaps the worst highlight of the season for him was the February game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves. The Bucks traded Robin to the Sacramento Kings before the game, but he is expected to be waived by the Kings and become a free agent. After the trade, Robin was no longer active, choosing to watch the Bucks against the Timberwolves. He sat on the sidelines, but instead of watching the proceedings, he read a book. Robin focused on the pages of “Backstory 2: Interviews with Screenwriters of the 1940s and 1950s” by Patrick McGilligan. This moment shocked many NBA fans, who couldn’t believe their eyes.

4. Ant-Man bangs his head against the rim after winning the game

Anthony Edwards is having a very successful NBA season. He had many highlights and led the team to the Western Conference Finals. One of the signature moments of Antman’s season was his gravity-defying block as the Timberwolves beat the Indiana Pacers 113-111 in March. Anthony showed off his incredible athleticism with a spectacular block on Aaron Nesmith’s buzzer-beating layup attempt to seal the win. The Timberwolves star jumped so high that he hit his head on the rim, resulting in an awkward landing. Instead of lying on the floor, Antman immediately stood up, bumped teammate Rudy Gobert in the chest, and then flexed his muscles in celebration. After the game, Anthony admitted he had never jumped that high. He also claims to be a strong man with a high pain tolerance.

3. Mike Brown was ejected after clashing with referees

When referees make questionable calls during games, they irritate players and coaches. Sometimes these players or coaches lose their cool, causing them to behave aggressively. That was certainly the case when Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown confronted the referees during a game against the Bucks in January. Mike was upset with referee Intae Hwang’s call and he rushed onto the court, started screaming at him and charging at him. Mack’s players had to restrain him and he was subsequently ejected. The NBA fined Mack $50,000 for “aggressively pursuing game officials during live games and publicly criticizing referees.” At the postgame press conference, coach Mike Brown pulled out a laptop to show the officiating’s inconsistencies.

2. Draymond Green swings and hits Jusuf Nurkic in the face

Draymond Green is already notorious for his unsportsmanlike behavior. However, he fell apart during the 2023/2024 NBA season and his antics reached unprecedented levels. Draymond was suspended five games last November for a confrontation with Rudy Gobert. One would have thought the Golden State Warriors center would have learned from that incident. Instead, a month later, when the Warriors faced off against the Phoenix Suns, his behavior became even more egregious. Draymond and Jusuf Nurkic got tangled up in a play before the former was slightly off-balance. In an attempt to regain his balance, Draymond mysteriously turned and punched Yusuf, hitting him in the face and causing him to be ejected. After the incident, the NBA suspended Draymond indefinitely. He missed 16 games as a result and returned in January after completing steps to prove he was committed to playing to the standards required by the NBA.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Ball Controversy

The Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers have a fierce rivalry this season. In December, the Bucks defeated the Pacers 140-126, which was the peak of the competition between the two teams. Giannis Antetokounmpo enjoyed a great game, scoring a career-high and franchise-record 64 points. However, the match ended in a strange way for the Greek Freak, who sought out the match ball so he could keep it as a souvenir after he broke the record. When Giannis learned the Pacers had the game ball, he stormed to their locker room angrily. The Pacers reportedly wanted to keep the ball for their rookie Oscar Tshiebwe, who scored his first regular-season goal in the game.

Giannis’ teammates and security tried to stop him, but were unsuccessful. Eventually, the situation calmed down after Bucks security reportedly got the ball that Giannis desperately needed. However, in the postgame press conference, the two-time MVP said he doubted whether the ball given to him was a game ball. “I had a ball, but I didn’t know if it was a game ball. It didn’t feel like a game ball to me,” he said.
