Young Nudy puts a lot of personality into his bar. He doesn’t deliver dense double entendres or puns, but he has an easy flow that sounds more catchy than the right production. Pi’erre Bourne is a consummate producer with these strengths, as evidenced by their latest collaboration, Sli’merre 2 . The album is considered Young Nudy’s solo effort, but as its title suggests, it combines the raw melodic talents of both artists for an easy and fun listening experience.
“Come to My World” is a perfect album opener. It’s slow, synth-driven, and spacious enough to give Young Nudy room to shine. The slurred vocals he produces are reminiscent of Gucci Mane in his prime, and he retains this style throughout much of the album. it works. On standout cut “Get Fu*ked Up,” Young Nudy’s ad-libs sound particularly Gucci-esque. All of the songs on “Sli’merre 2” are well-received, even though the ideas for each song border on repetitive at times. Whether it’s the eerie retro sounds of “Breakdown” or the shocking bounce of “Hakuna Matata,” the production keeps everything dynamic. Young Nudy and Pi’erre Bourne continue to make wave music together. We wouldn’t mind a Sli’merre 3 coming out sometime in the future.
