Hip-hop’s unofficial War of the Roses got a new combatant this week. However, instead of getting involved in the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar or any of the other (many) existing feuds, Gucci Mane decided to put the spotlight on what’s currently bothering Shawn · “Dad” Combs’ absolutely troublesome issues were put aside. In his new song “TakeDat,” Gucci Mane turns the troubled mogul into a recurring punchline, recreating the iconic “Bad Boy” music video in his own “TakeDat” video. Throughout the chorus, Gucci chants the newly-invented saying “no Diddy” while listing off his various accomplishments and fame. Among them: “We’re Higher Than a Kite,” “Look at My Artist Double” and “Couple Got Beaten.” Each is accompanied by the evocation of another chorus.
But things get really spicy in the first verse, as Gucci boasts, “I got a young Miami bitch from town/I spend money like a trick, no Diddy/I rock piss yellow diamonds , no Diddy/But she can’t be a minor, and neither can Diddy. The four-line reference to Diddy’s potential transactional relationship with City Girls rapper Yung Miami, Combs allegedly. a love of water sports, and at least one of the many sexual misconduct lawsuits filed against him, in which he was accused of having sex with underage girls.
Later in the verse, Gucci also recalled Cassie’s claims that Diddy blew up Kid Cudi’s car in a fit of jealousy, something Suge Knight’s 1995 Source Awards “Coming to Death Row” mocked the “executive producer’s attempt to do in the video” in All Out, It’s All On The Record, Dancing,” and the long-standing rumor that Diddy had his fellow artist, The Notorious B.I.G., framed and murdered in order to capitalize on his posthumous record sales.
