Tyreek Hill’s traffic stop controversy took a new twist after it was revealed that the Miami-Dade County police officer involved, Danny Torres, had a history of misconduct.
Torres, who detained the Miami Dolphins wide receiver for an alleged excessive force incident, has been suspended six times in his career, according to the New York Post. Hill, who was pulled over for allegedly speeding before the Dolphins’ season opener, claimed Torres used unnecessary force during the stop.
The officer reportedly put his hands around Hill’s neck, pulled him from the car and forced him face down on the sidewalk. Hill’s attorney, Julius B. Collins, has since called for Torres’ immediate firing.
“After a careful and thorough review of multiple body camera and concerned citizen videos of the unfortunate incident that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024… we demand that the officer be terminated immediately,” Hill’s attorneys said.
While Hill admitted he “could have done better” during the encounter, the NFL star insisted Torres escalated the situation for no reason. Hill claims the officer ignored his repeated statements that his knee had undergone medical procedures and continued to apply pressure. Dolphins receiver was charged with driving 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.
