On Tuesday (April 23), Keefe D appeared in court for the Tupac Shakur murder hearing. Nevada prosecutors said they should be able to review and turn over documents to wrap up the discovery phase within two months.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told Judge Carli Kierny that prosecutors believe they collected all necessary documents from various agencies, KSNV in Las Vegas reported . Keefe D’s attorney, Carl Arnold, confirmed that he had received some redacted documents from prosecutors during a pretrial status hearing.
Judge Kierny scheduled another status inspection for July 23.
Keefe D, whose real name is Duane Davis, was arrested in 2023 for the 1996 murder of Tupac.
Tupac was shot to death in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. Authorities say Keef D was not the shooter, but he hatched the plan to attack Tupac.
“Duane Davis was the mastermind of this criminal group,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson said. “He orchestrated the plans he executed. ”
Keefe D has pleaded not guilty to murder. He maintains his innocence, although prosecutors point to his admissions in memoirs and various interviews about his role in Tupac’s death. Last year, Keef D’s former lawyer claimed he lied about his involvement in Tupac’s murder for money.
“The authenticity of the interview has never been proven,” his defense team argued. “The book and the interview are all about entertainment and making money from situations like this. [former LAPD detective Greg] Cardin and others have profited from it.
Keefe D’s trial was scheduled to begin in June. Judge Kilney adjourned the trial until November at a hearing in February.
