“Digram” is the third collaboration album between San Diego’s Tranzformer and London producer Big O, and is a masterclass that balances each other’s strength. The project is rooted in affectionate samples and underground hip-hop grit, thriving in tension between the unique styles of the two producers, which featured the Big O’s rugged heavier beats and the polished, groove-driven soundscape of the Tranzformer. The album’s title reflects its deeper theme core: the driving force of human duality, morality and artistic expression. The alternating of 15 tracks between the two producers, the dichotomy celebrates their personal style with a collaborative effort.
The album sorting, Big O deals with odd tracks and tranzformer ingesting Evens, creates an interesting narrative. Outstanding moments like “Fed Up (Remix)” (produced by Big O) bring the raw energy of Fashawn and G-Rocka, while Tranzformer’s contribution tends to a smoother, jazz-damaged rhythm. Co-production, “climax” and “run”, are at the heart of the project. “The climax” shines with a affectionate pose cut by Lou and p-Rawb, raised by sharp scratches of Decksterror, while “Running”, provided by Benny Canales’s conductor poem, is a ruthless bar.
Dichotomy is not only a conflict of styles, but also a dialogue. The contrast of this album flourished, but never felt disconnected due to the delicate mix and mastery (handled by G-Rocka, Argy W. and Tranzformer himself). Whether it’s the smoky boom of Big O’s Beats or the lush layered work of Tranzformer, the project proves that not only does the opposition appeal, they all work with it to create something bigger. Dichotomy is essential for fans of sample-driven hip-hop music with depth and duality.
