A month after a masked gunman opened fire at a two-year-old’s birthday party in Stockton, police have still not made any arrests. The prize money keeps growing as families bury their children.
On November 29, at least 50 rounds were fired from five different guns, killing four people. Three children and one adult failed to return home.
The shooting occurred in the banquet hall and was not a random incident. Police said it was gang-related.
MBNel, a Filipino-American rapper from Stockton, was reportedly the primary target. Three weeks after the shooting, he finally broke his silence. He mourned the victims in a post on Instagram.
“My deepest condolences go out to the families who had to bury their children and the innocent lives lost,” MBNel wrote. “What happened in Stockton is an unimaginable loss to the family. There are no words to explain it and I don’t want to add noise where the concern should be. This is about the family, not other people.”
MBNel said he “acted quietly and deliberately” out of respect. “I will not go into details or speculation. May the deceased rest in peace and may their souls live on forever.”
The rapper, best known for his 2020 album Born To Win, has been a part of the Stockton hip-hop scene for years. He was arrested in 2020 during a gang investigation but continued to make music.
There were two other rappers at the party that night. Fly Boy Dougy and NanoMB. Both men were arrested for parole violations following the shooting.
Flyboy Dougie recounted what he saw and heard in prison.
“I was trying to help the kids,” he said in a prison interview. He described the chaos as gunfire erupted around the children. “I didn’t see the shooter,” Dougie said. He felt the police had wrongly arrested him.
NanoMB threw a birthday party for his children but remains behind bars on a parole violation. Neither rapper is considered a suspect in the shooting.
Both men were documented gang members who later turned to rap music. Fly Boy Dougy performed as a member of the Flyboy gang and released several songs. NanoMB also makes music, but keeps a low profile.
Police have not made any arrests in the shooting that tore apart a family. They would not say if there are any suspects. Photos of the masked gunman have not yet been released.
The reward money starts out small but continues to increase. Stockton Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of more than $100,000 for information leading to an arrest.
