While paying tribute to funk icon Sly Stone at the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend, Questlove also teased the existence of unreleased music by the late D’Angelo.
The Roots drummer and Oscar-winning filmmaker revealed the news during an interview with entertainment reporter Courtney Trzenno after performing at a tribute to Sly and the Stones.

When asked about D’Angelo’s unreleased tracks, he smiled knowingly and said, “You’ll see soon enough.”
He adds, “It’s always the sound of yesterday, but for the future. This record is no different.”
D’Angelo passed away in October 2025 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy that reshaped modern R&B.
Albums like “Voodoo” and “Black Messiah” cemented his influence on neo-soul and hip-hop, and his death left a void in the music industry.
Questlove profiles D’Angelo in his latest documentary, “Sly Lives,” which explores the rise, fall and impact of Sly Stone.
The film follows Questlove’s critically acclaimed Summer of Soul and continues to delve into the music legend’s life.
The tribute concert features a line-up that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers members Stevie Wonder, Maxwell, Baker and Frye. Together they performed a medley of Sly and Family Stone classics to celebrate the band’s induction into the Hall of Fame.
D’Angelo’s last album, Black Messiah, was released in 2014. Questlove’s comments have renewed hope that more works from the Virginia-born artist may be coming soon.
