Quavo’s annual “Huncho Day” returns to his hometown of Atlanta for the seventh year, this time focusing on gun violence prevention efforts with a focus on community safety.
Quavo lost his nephew and Migos member Takeoff to gun violence in 2022, so this initiative, called the “Quavo Cares Center for Social Impact,” is very close to his heart.
Beginning April 28, the annual event will also include, for the first time, Team Huncho Basketball and Team Huncho Elite 7v7 Football, in addition to regular football and basketball youth camps and a combined event powered by the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Falcons race.
Proceeds from Huncho Day will benefit “Rocket Camp” (also known as the Trusted Messenger Summer Mentoring Program powered by the Rocket Foundation), a 10-week summer violence intervention program led by the Offender Alumni Association to Engage youth ages 13-17, a high-risk, high-need population, with opportunities for economic, social and civic empowerment.
As for the Quavo Cares Social Impact Center, a press release describes it as an experiential space for citizens and community resource partners to provide and educate the Atlanta community on their services, with a special focus on gun violence prevention.
The event is sold out, but you can join the waitlist here .
Quavo has continued efforts to honor Takeoff since his death and last month launched the Sparks Grants Initiative, which will provide $10,000 grants each to 10 organizations focused on gun violence and its Supervised projects.
“I am honored to launch this grant program in honor of Tucker and the countless families impacted by gun violence,” the 32-year-old said in a statement. “The Rocket Foundation will donate funds to communities dedicated to reducing violence in Atlanta. Local organizations provide $100,000 Spark grant.”
“ATL has a lot of important work going on right now, and part of our mission is to elevate these organizations and support them to help save more lives,” he continued.
Grant applications are still being accepted and the deadline for applications is April 21.
