Machine Gun Kelly and Trippie Redd have announced a joint EP titled Genre: Sadboy , expected to be released later this month.
The Ohio native posted a video on social media on Wednesday (March 20), confirming that the emo rap piece will be arriving on the streaming service on March 29.
“Genre:sadboy 3/29 is a project of ours,” MGK wrote in his caption.
The two have collaborated several times in the past, including “Candy” from MGK’s Hotel Diablo album in 2019, and “All I Know” from MGK’s pop-punk album Tickets To My Downfall in 2020. Trippie is also opening for the Cleveland artist’s 2022 Mainstream Sellout Tour.
After taking a turn toward punk/rock with the aforementioned Tickets and Mainstream Sell-Out albums, Machine Gun Kelly returns to her rap roots with 2023’s street single “Pressure.”
After releasing a series of YouTube freestyles, Kells released his latest single, “don’t let me go,” produced by SlimXX and BazeXX, in February.
The Cleveland star shared a music video for the new song, in which he elaborates on his foibles and vulnerabilities, addressing his emotional instability, childhood trauma, suicidal tendencies and substance abuse issues, as well as his struggles with depression despite publicly calling out for help. Being ignored and succumbing to trust issues.
“Before my father left this earth, he made sure I had all the qualities I didn’t want/I should have died at birth, gave me another chance, I screwed up, gave me another chance/I’ve always been Running “From the secrets I hid as a child, I never faced them,” he recounted his past, alluding to being abandoned by his parents as a child, before saying he still forgave his mother.
About hiding his inner struggles, he gushed: “Who am I when the music stops?/And the character I play is really just broken and fucking lost/I swear I’ve told you all that over and over again These songs/But they can’t hear anything I write because they’re too busy trying to write me off.”
Although there are worrying admissions throughout the song, it ends on an upbeat note as he asks fans and listeners to give him space to recover.
As for Trippie Redd, his last album was 2023’s ALLTY5 album, which featured a host of guest contributors including Corbin, Lil Wayne, Roddy Rich, The Kid Laroi, Tommy Lee Sparta, and Bryson Tiller.
