Losing anyone in your life is painful, but perhaps few things are more heartbreaking than losing a child. Our prayers are with Lil Jon during this horrific time of grief, who recently shared a touching message following the death of his son Nathan Smith, aka DJ Young Slade.
Police said it was unlikely foul play was involved in Nathan’s death, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. Police put out a call to find Nathan as early as February 3, when he ran away from home and never returned.
The Milton Police Department later revealed news of the tragedy on February 6, after Nathan’s body was found in a local pond after his disappearance. Lil Jon later confirmed the news in a statement to XXL.
“I am very saddened by the tragic death of my son Nathan Smith. His mother [Nicole Smith] “I’m heartbroken,” Lil Jon said. “Nathan was the kindest person you could ever meet. He was incredibly caring, thoughtful, polite, warm, enthusiastic – and he loved his family and friends so much. He was a talented young man; a music producer, artist and engineer who graduated from NYU.”
Lil Jon even revealed a heart-to-heart the family had with Nathan before the incident. He said: “We love Nathan with all our hearts and are extremely proud of him. He was loved and appreciated and it is comforting to know that we showed him that sentiment during our final time together.”
While words will never be enough, our deepest condolences go out to the family.
