Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire trial has reportedly been postponed until April.
The Chicago rapper’s trial date was originally scheduled for January 20, but has been pending for the past few weeks. On Wednesday (January 7), legal affairs reporter Megan Cunniff reported that the trial has been postponed until the end of April.
“I just came out of the Los Angeles federal courthouse and the Duke murder-for-hire trial has been postponed to April 21st or 28th,” she posted. “Not May 4th as the defense requested, and many media outlets incorrectly reported the judge’s approval.”
Duke’s co-defendants have been pushing in recent days to continue the trial, with a trial date set for May 4. Duke’s team opposed the extension. However, his motion to severance has not yet been granted, meaning all co-defendants will be tried together.
Now, the judge agrees both sides need more time to deal with the wide-ranging case.
“Due to the nature of the prosecution and the number of defendants, the case is so unusual and complex that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for the pretrial proceedings or the trial itself within the time limits provided by the Speedy Trial Act,” the motion filed on Monday (Jan. 5) said.
XXL has reached out to Lil Durk’s attorney.
Durk was arrested in October 2024 and accused of paying five OTF affiliates to murder Quando Rondo in August 2022 in retaliation for the death of King Von, who was shot to death in 2020 by Quando Rondo affiliate Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks. Quando’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was shot and killed during the attempted murder.
