Over the past few months, Kesha has been very clear about her distaste for Diddy’s accusations and actions, especially since her greatest hits uncritically call out Diddy. But that was before Sean Combs’ alleged (and proven) crimes were fully exposed, as the song’s anniversary is celebrated on Wednesday (August 7) (“TiK ToK” was released 15 years ago in 2009) At the time, she revealed that she would ensure the scandal did not further tarnish the legacy of her track. Additionally, the Los Angeles native previously changed the record’s lyrics to “f**k P. Diddy” instead during a performance at Coachella (among other events) with Reneé Rapp “Feels like P. Diddy,” is the change she will officially make on the re-recorded version of “TiK ToK.”
“TiK ToK is the first single I’ve ever put out into the world with my voice and my name on it!!!” Kesha begins about her current “Diddy”-taunting cut. “I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt and wanted other people to feel that way. I’m very proud that that’s how the song still made me feel throughout the process, These are emotions I wish we could all feel. 15 (!!!!!!) years later I look at this song as a snapshot of the way I saw the world at the time.
Kesha will let Diddy Diss re-record “TiK ToK”
“That girl was innocent, wild, and playful,” Kesha continued. “This song immortalizes a side of myself that I love so much that I now have to fight to protect. The world has changed a lot, and so have I. I absolutely love the new lyrical changes. (Shout out to @reneerapp) Yes, It is permanent.
“Right now, my first child represents a lot,” Kesha concluded. “It represents the intense protection of fun and pure joy in myself and others. The whole ride has been absolutely crazy, but the joy is still riding. I hope you all find the 3 1/2 minutes in this song Play time, connect with your wild childlike joy [red heart emoji]. Thank you for making my life so magical, Animals from the Books! x.
