Kanye West broke new ground in digital music history when his third studio album “Graduation” surpassed 8 billion streams on Spotify, becoming the most played hip-hop project on the platform.

The Graduation album, originally released in 2007, continues to be played 4.4 million times a day, according to Spotify’s internal data.

This continued performance makes it the most played rap album on the platform, surpassing new releases, and reaffirms Kanye West’s lasting mark on the genre as the record approaches its 20th anniversary.

Songs like “Stronger,” “Good Life” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” remain the album’s best-performing songs, driving the majority of daily streams.

The project blends electronic music with traditional hip-hop rhythms, marking a turning point in the evolution of the genre. Analysts credit Kanye West and Graduation with helping to change the sound direction of mainstream rap and influencing subsequent generations of artists.

Streaming data shows that the album added over 1 billion plays in 2025 alone, making it the first album of the 2000s to reach this milestone in one year. The surge was fueled by long-time listeners revisiting the album and younger audiences discovering it for the first time.

Despite being nearly two decades old, this album still outperforms many current releases. Its continued success has redefined how traditional albums are measured in the digital age.
