This is the third EP from New York emcee Jynx716. In 2020, he came to prominence with his debut mixtape The Green Album, and last spring he released his debut EP The 33, most notably Careful What You Wish For, produced by Che Noir, but he’s not done yet, with With Che’s return, a total of 8 songs were created, totaling 25 minutes’ worth of material.
“Second Impressions” is a symphonic opener about how his first impressions can’t be too bad, while “Time” features some piano chords that show he’s not doing this part-time at all. “Where I Gotta Go” is about doing what he has to do in order to get where he needs to be in life, giving off a mystical vibe that leads instrumentally to “Stay Underground,” starring and produced by 38 Spesh, A more primitive approach was adopted.
G4 Jag gives off a cinematic vibe again with Jynx on “Pretty Penny”, Che jumps back behind the plate to spin the phrase “a penny for yourthought”, but then “Hope” starring Che himself and Freeway is fine place into this – flipping samples to talk about their wins. “No Voicemail” ties those pianos together with kick and snare drums to get his vocals in before Vic Spencer’s “Intent” closes the EP and declares that they’re doing this all with purpose.
“Careful What You Wish For” has quickly become my favorite Jynx-produced EP, and “ANDY” (Absolute Not Done Yet) is probably better than its predecessor, although it’s a solid gateway into his discography. Che is starting to evolve as a producer, which I don’t see as a problem at all, and Jynx’s lyrical abilities have improved over the past few years.
