Jay-Z launches new website to celebrate 30 years of music.
On Friday (February 20), Jay-Z launched a new website, JayZ30.com, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of his song “Dead Presidents,” which was released on February 20, 1996, and his 30-year music career. On Roc Nation’s Instagram account (pictured below), an image of Jay-Z (with an umlaut on ÿ) appeared alongside the news that his song “Dead Presidents” was being released on the digital streaming platform for the first time.
The Ski Beatz-produced classic money-making song borrows a line from Nas’s Ilmatic hit “The World Is Yours,” in which he sings, “I’d rather have a dead president represent me.” The single was released independently through now-defunct music label Roc-A-Fella Records.
Additionally, the single is available on vinyl, CD and audio cassette at JayZ30.com. Interestingly, Hov puts the umlaut ÿ back into his name in all the music videos on his YouTube channel.
There’s no word yet on how Jay-Z plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut solo album “Reasonable Doubt.” He released the project on June 25, 1996 through Roc-A-Fella Records.
Guests on this classic album include The Notorious BIG, Foxy Brown and Mary J. Blige, and producers include Ski Beatz, Knowbody, DJ Premier, Irv Gotti (DJ Irv for short), DJ Clark Kent and more. Memorable tracks from the LP include “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” “Ain’t No N**ga,” “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “Can I Live” and “D’Evils.”
