Ice Spice says we live in a “misogynistic world” and discusses how entering the entertainment industry gave her a new perspective on how difficult it is to succeed as a woman. She told Rolling Stone magazine that women have to be “sexy” to get the necessary opportunities. The conversation started with her discussing her performance of her hit song “Phat Butt” at the BET Awards.
“I used to judge other artists’ award show performances,” she admits. “I’d say, ‘Oh, this is embarrassing. Why are they doing this? Why is she looking there?'” She added: “When you do it yourself, you think, ‘Well, that’s a lot. .There were probably 10 different cameras and it was a lot of everything, but it was still fun in the end.

Since then, Spice has discussed the differences between genders in the music industry. “We really live in a misogynistic world, like you have to be very sexy to get certain opportunities,” she said. “I was born as a woman, raised as a woman, so I’ve only known this lifestyle, but I can imagine how easy it is for men.” She added that she even gets jealous of the men on her team from time to time. “I get so jealous when the men on my team sleep five extra hours because they’re not attractive,” she commented.
Spice spoke to Rolling Stone following the release of her debut studio album Y2K last month. Elsewhere in the interview, she discussed working with Taylor Swift, her feelings about Matty Healy, and more. Stay tuned for further updates from Ice Spice on HotNewHipHop.
