In the jury in the murder of rapper Young Dolph, the jury acquitted Hernandez Govan, and Key Glock summoned the Memphis legal system to be outraged at what he believed was a miscarriage.
The Memphis rapper, both a protégé and cousin of Young Dolph, responded frankly to social media after the verdict and posted in a tweet since: “My city failed, but what’s new.”
The message captured a wave of frustration shared by many in the rap community, who argued that the trial did not raise a sense of responsibility.
Gowan is accused of plotting the 2021 killing of young Dorff, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr. outside the Memphis bakery.
But after a brief review, jurors found that Gowan was not guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to murder.

The defense team believes that the case in prosecution relies heavily on unreliable testimony from convicted shooter Cornelius Smith.
During the trial, Smith was described as a “pathological liar” and he was making a vertical judgment.
The lawyers also challenged the prosecutor’s cell phone records and pointed out that they lacked direct contact with Govan. There is no DNA, physical evidence or eyewitness testimony that relate him to the crime.
After about two to three hours of deliberation, the jury agreed to the defense’s position that the state failed to prove Gowan’s participation outside of reasonable doubt.
After his acquittal, Gowan thanked the jury and reiterated his innocence.
He also criticized the prosecution method, saying the process made him feel at ease and disillusioned with the judicial system.
The verdict shocked many, especially those close to Dorf, who has been a leading figure on the city’s hip-hop stage.
The young Dolph was fatally shot dead on November 17, 2021. The trial surrounding his death has been a pain and controversy in the city ever since.
