The long-awaited album Darkness and Other Colors has been officially released digitally. This is Chino XL’s first posthumous album. “Darkness and Other Colors” takes listeners on a journey of hardcore, dark lyrical themes as the follow-up to “God’s Carpenter”.
The album opens with “Color of Death” and “Scarlet Sermon,” featuring up-tempo, darkly lyrical puns that intensely explore personal pain, existential fear, and identity struggles. Chino XL displays a sophisticated blend of bravado and introspection, weaving complex metaphors and punchlines while addressing personal struggles and broader social issues. This resulted in “The Sepia Selfie of the Last Supper,” in which he reflects on his long rap career, humorously noting that he was taking a selfie of The Last Supper.
You Deserve Red details themes of heavy emotional weight, social neglect and personal turmoil, as well as a searing critique of injustice. “Holy Sleep” delves into exhaustion and emotional turmoil, expressing a powerful desire to escape. Byzantine Darkness tells a fast-paced story about the struggles and achievements of the past.

Blue Obsidian delves deeper into his dark journey, reflecting on his former graveside abode. “Burning Ivy” captures his self-doubt and others’ perceptions of him, reconciling the burdens of his past with raw, radical expression.
Black Room continues the exploration of personal struggle, artistic integrity, and cultural commentary. “Lumps Sumps” blends uptempo beats with harmonious choruses, detailing the artist’s personal struggles and quest for authenticity. “Chardikala” (Chardikala) published a short poem conveying a message of hope and unity.

The deluxe version has 3 bonus tracks. On “Gray Punishment,” Chino XL showcases his advanced puns and showcases his lyrical prowess. “Genius God’s Auburn” provides insight into his mood and past experiences, while “Vanilla Sky” concludes the journey. In the song, he describes his sound as an effort in shades of gray, referencing the movie Vanilla Sky, and suggesting that his ambitions are like vanilla, simple yet profound.
