Drake found himself at the center of controversy after he reportedly trash-talked social media during the World Series, prompting the Los Angeles Dodgers to defeat his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
According to shortstop Miguel Rojas, the Canadian rapper’s pointed comments about Shohei Ohtani after the Blue Jays’ Game 5 win created Billboard material and fired up the Dodgers’ clubhouse.
“I’m trying to be humble and not say too much, but it doesn’t go unnoticed,” Rojas told TMZ Sports. “When you do something like this, when you don’t respect the best player in the game and don’t understand the quality of the guy and what he did for baseball, it’s really hard to draw conclusions at the time.”
Drake shared a photo of Trey Yesavage defeating Shohei Ohtani on Instagram along with an old photo of Ohtani modeling.

The Grammy-winning artist posted inflammatory content directed at Ohtani after Toronto won Game 5 6-1 to take a 3-2 lead. His social media activity included mocking the Japanese superstar’s performance.
Rojas revealed that the Dodgers locker room took notice of Drake’s disrespectful posts toward his teammates. Rojas’ comments suggest that Drake’s trash talk may have provided additional motivation for Los Angeles to complete a comeback victory in the World Series.
The veteran infielder emphasized how the team rallied around Ohtani after the rapper’s comments.
“We lost the game [5](Trey) Yesavage had a really good game and we didn’t do anything but praise him. He pitched really well, had a great game, he’s a different pitcher, he’s a unicorn as a pitcher. And then all of a sudden we discovered this guy. We don’t know who he is, but you don’t have to, man,” Rojas said.

The Dodgers responded strongly in Games 6 and 7, with Rojas himself hitting a game-tying homer in the ninth inning of the decisive Game 7. Ohtani went 3-for-8 in the final two games and added a double and two runs.
Drake’s involvement has reignited discussions about the infamous “Drake Curse” – the phenomenon in which teams he publicly supports regularly lose high-profile games.
The curse has previously affected various franchises across multiple sports.
The Toronto native has been an outspoken supporter of the Blue Jays throughout his career, frequently attending games and sharing his passion for the team on social media.
The Blue Jays ultimately failed to realize their championship dreams, losing the series with a 3-2 lead. The loss marked another painful playoff exit for the team.
