Diddy has reportedly been placed on suicide watch in prison, but according to his legal team, this is just a routine measure.
Diddy reportedly on suicide watch in Brooklyn as precautionary measure
According to reports published by TMZ and FOX 5 New York on Friday (September 20), Diddy remains in custody at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution.
However, Diddy’s lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told TMZ that Diddy was “not suicidal at all” and that the MDC’s order was nothing more than a precautionary measure given the hip-hop mogul’s celebrity status measure. While Agnifilo said being denied bail twice was “tough for him,” he also thought Diddy was “strong, healthy, confident and focused on defense.”
While the vast majority of prisoners never choose to end their lives, precautionary measures like the one Diddy is dealing with are likely due to high-profile incidents in the past, such as the case of Jeffrey Epstein. The late financier committed suicide in 2019 while serving time in the same prison as Combs on similar sex trafficking charges.
When asked to confirm whether Diddy had been placed on suicide watch, the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center explained to XXL that due to policies set by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, they were unable to provide such information.
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) does not provide information regarding the conditions of confinement or internal security measures for any specific incarcerated individual,” the MDC statement read.
Marc Agnifilo’s statement about Diddy’s mental health comes after several experts weighed in on the potential danger Puff faces behind bars in Brooklyn. Earlier this week, celebrity prison coach John Fuller told TMZ that the current situation is “dangerous stuff for Dee Dee” given the stark contrast between “a life of luxury” and prison, and He was predicted to be placed on suicide watch. Likewise, former MDC Brooklyn warden Cameron Lindsay told the celebrity gossip site that other inmates may view injury bragging as a “badge of honor,” in which case it makes sense to take safety precautions of.
